I left WoW for this. No monthly fee, and my friends are comming here so the choice was easy for me.

Keep playing WoW and get a copy of Guildwars to compare yourself, we can't accurately tell you what you like
Since there is no monthly fee it works out well. |

Instanced maps, this was a huge deal for me. One of the best things to come to an MMO.

WoW can be fun for a while. Personally I found it to get boring, mostly due to what I think is a poorly implemented PvP system. I felt there was too much "ganking" and unbalanced warfare going on there for my taste. I also think the community there left a lot to be desired.
I have been reading these boards for quite some time now and found the community here to be much better than the typical MMO. There are a lot of great and helpful people here. But the biggest reason for me to leave WoW and join in on Guild Wars is the PvP. Since this game is focused on PvP I am sure they have gotten it right, and judging by the reactions of everyone I know who played this they did in fact get it right. Also the max level of 20 helps to ensure a level playing field for everyone involved. All I can recommend is that since there is no montly fee, no need to input a credit card and all, pick up the game and play it. I think you'll like what you find here. Cheers! Gryph |

I think I will buy it this weekend and test it out .. and see how it compares to WoW .. I just didn't want to go buy it and not like it ..
If it is basically the same game Im sure I will like it . |

a more accurate statement would be to say that they are completely different! play what you want...i'm not going to 'sell' anything to you i just left wow for this game but i LOVE wow...i just don't have enough time to enjoy wow or to get to pvp, which is pretty pointless unless your lvl 55+ which for me would have taken months. So my main reason was my lack of time to play wow...i only have about 3, maybe 4 hours per day to play, and i like lots of pvp, thus guild wars makes a lot more sense for me. |

While I'm not very efficient at explaining game details, I will tell you this is the only game that I've ever been unambigously excited to play when arriving home. I will tell you I found this game has a rather higher quality environment, sophisticated community, and a dynamic PvP system. You should try it out yourself. That's truly the only way you'll find out whether you like it or not.

How did you come to find the community so sophisticated? I am having a hard time meeting anyone compared to other games. Most other games I left the main towns as fast as I could as they were chalked full of the behavior most of us don't like (killstealing, ninja looting, 'Why can't Class X do skill B, this is gay' type comments). I would met most of the people I came to like through teaming up while soloing to help get through a rather rough area or because they may have asked for my assistance. While not everyone I teamed up with would be worth adding to my friend's list there were a few and these are the ones I tried to contact when I was online. Now the way GW is set-up I will not be able to met people in this fashion again, and I did hear all the l33t speak in the starting town as I do in most games. I would like to meet that sophisticated community, but with no monthly fee lowering the cost barriers to even more school kids (I'll take a quick moment to say that some school kids are more mature than adults but it is genaric ratio thing, I would not have wanted to game with me when I was in High School) increasing all the behavior I try to avoid in the towns. Other than this concern, I do like the game so far. I can finally be able to keep up with the new friends I make as I am a casual gamer. So like I said not flaming or trolling, I really want to know how you separate the wheat from the chaff. Last edited by Borion; Apr 28, 2005 at 06:18 PM // 18:18.. |

I am playing both Guild Wars and WoW. I would not be doing this if they both had a monthly fee, I would then choose one or the other, but since GW does not...

I played FFXI since it's release and decided to leave for this game. The traveling is better, the graphics are better, the quests are better...but it is just personal prefrerence.

For me I left WoW because of a time issue (get to level 60 to truely be on a level PVP field). And the monthly fee has always bothered me (not the amount - just period). I am a PVP fanatic and I like to get in a game, play and get out.
I want to be able to PVP right out of the box. It's an enjoyment issue, not a money issue. Even though GW isn't as "deep" as WoW, I will enjoy it more because I never get tired of competing against other players. I like that I can set the game down for 2 weeks and come back and know that I can jump right into the game with my friends. I don't have to play "catch-up". I HATE the catch-up game. In WoW I would log in for 2 hours, be bored the entire time (farming for money, leveling whatever) and log off. WoW is a fantastic game from start to finish - MMORPGs however enjoyable in part, just aren't for me. I wan't my stuff (equipment) handed to me so I can refine my skills - not be stronger based on how much time I play, but simply how I play. |

WoW rewards you for time spent playing. GW rewards you for learning how to use skills.
There is no grind in GW. It's just more fun to me. |

WoW and most MMOs reward you for time spent by having cash to spend on junk you need, in WoW...Instance running, getting random drops, and leveling. That friggin blows if you can't spend 8 - 10 hours a day on a game. You don't have the time to quest, level, farm, and buy stuff, and then actually do what you want to do in the game. Also, wow strikes me as a game with all fluff and no mechanics. They spent so much time with models, graphics, sound and features that they didn't really look into seperate mechanics for pvp and pve, balancing items amoung classes, balancing skills, making features work correctly. That turned me off in a huge way. Reminded me of SB too much and the fact i paid to play a beta for 2 years. I gave them 4 mos to fix it and haven't looked back since. |
